Cigna Recognizes MassMutual for Commitment to Employee Health and Wellness
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - October 25, 2017 - Cigna has selected MassMutual as a winner of the annual Cigna Well-Being Award (WBA) for demonstrating a strong commitment to improving the health and wellness of its employees through a workplace wellness program.
MassMutual was selected due to evidence of a well-being program that is designed not merely to "check the boxes," but rather to engage employees in meaningful ways that support a healthy lifestyle. MassMutual has created a company culture that allows for a sustainable and robust wellness program - from strong leadership support of the Live Healthy, Live Well program to inclusion of employee feedback to guide future efforts. The company's application provided clear evidence of MassMutual's commitment to provide healthy choices and opportunities for employees to thrive.
"We recognize the value of investing in the well-being of our employees and their health is a top priority," said Dr. Claudia Coplein, chief medical officer, MassMutual. "This award validates our commitment and progress in the health and wellness space and we are very honored to be recognized."
"Cigna is a market leader in driving health improvement in the workplace and we are committed to recognizing companies like MassMutual who are passionate about investing in a culture of health," said David Guilmette, President, Global Employer and Private Exchanges, at Cigna. "For many employers, workplace well-being is a key business priority contributing to overall effective management of health care costs. Companies that provide holistic opportunities to engage in better health while at work are cultivating a healthier and more productive workforce, which is a win for both employers and for employees."
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), U.S. employers lose more than $225 billion each year in productivity due to employee health problems. Cigna created the Well-Being Award to recognize employer clients that have a positive impact on the health and well-being of their workforce.
Applicants are evaluated based on the core components of their wellness program, including the goals, implementation, incentives, leadership engagement and employee participation. All applications are reviewed and judged by Cigna's multi-departmental review committee.
