National Breast Cancer Awareness

Fighting for Women's Health Research

Because women's health is one of our core concerns, CIGNA is a long-time supporter of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Komen is the nation's largest private funder of research dedicated solely to eradicating breast cancer. Recognizing their leadership, CIGNA and its employees have donated over $640,000 to Komen since 2000.

In 2005, we marked our tenth year of participation in National Denim Day®; a one-day, fund-raising event held each year to benefit breast cancer research. On Denim Day, a $5 donation earns employees a pink ribbon — the universally recognized symbol for the fight against breast cancer — and the right to wear their favorite pair of jeans to work. CIGNA's event, A Decade of Denim, involved 66 offices and 350 employee volunteers, and raised over $33,000.

In its home community of Philadelphia, CIGNA also sponsored Komen's Race for the Cure and the annual Survivors Luncheon, an inspirational event that celebrates the true heroes of the battle against breast cancer.
