CIGNA and the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial

In January, CIGNA announced a $1 million contribution to help create a permanent memorial to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The initiative is lead by the Washington, DC Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial Project Foundation. The Memorial is scheduled to be completed and dedicated in 2008.

In his statement announcing this contribution, CIGNA CEO H. Edward Hanway said:

"Dr. King's public ministry was a courageous affirmation of the fundamental dignity and worth of every human being. These same principles guide CIGNA's interaction with our employees, customers and communities. As A Business of Caring, CIGNA is proud to support this effort and reinforce our deep belief in Dr. King's values and ideals."

CIGNA is the first health care company to be a major contributor to the King Memorial.
