White House Disparities Award

Cigna Honored at White House for Efforts to Reduce Health Care Disparities*

Health disparities are differences in rates of disease, health outcomes or access to health care that are related to many factors. U.S. Surgeon General Regina Benjamin recognized Cigna for its efforts to reduce health care disparities.

NBGH Award

Cigna's Health Disparities Council Wins National Award

Cigna's Health Disparities Council was formed in 2008 and is now made up of over 200 employee volunteers who serve in workgroups that promote fair and equal health care opportunities among all of our 11 million customers. The National Business Group on Health* recognized this work with its Award for Innovation in Reducing Health Care Disparities.

March of Dimes

March of Dimes*

Cigna has been a national sponsor of the March of Dimes and its national fundraising campaign (March for Babies) since 1995. The March of Dimes helps moms have full-term pregnancies and researches the problems that threaten the health of babies. Cigna and its people have provided over $26 million to support this work.

Disney Marathon

WALT DISNEY WORLD® Marathon Weekend*

This three-day blue ribbon event for runners of all types combines fun, family and physical activity, with opportunities to support a health-related charity. Presenting this event with Disney enables Cigna to reach thousands of people and celebrate their efforts to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

ChildObesity180

ChildObesity180*

ChildObesity180 is dedicated to reversing the trend of childhood obesity by bringing together national leaders from multiple sectors — public, private, academic, and nonprofit — to develop a strategic, coordinated, and evidenced-based portfolio of initiatives to prevent childhood obesity on a national scale. ChildObesity180 is conducted in collaboration with Tufts University and is housed at the Tufts University Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy in Boston, MA. Cigna CEO and ChildObesity180 Charter Member David Cordani convened 12 health plans to contribute $1.2 million to fund the Innovation Competition of the Active Schools Acceleration Project* (ASAP), a ChildObesity180 initiative dedicated to increasing quality physical activity in schools.

Alzheimer's Association

Alzheimer's Association*

This is the leading, global voluntary health organization in Alzheimer's care and support, and the largest private, nonprofit funder of Alzheimer's research. They provide services to those affected by Alzheimer’s; advocate for policy change and scientific funding; and advance research toward prevention, treatment and cure.

Healthy Kids Challenge

Healthy Kids Challenge (HKC)*

HKC helps educators, youth leaders, and community members develop solutions that encourage young people to make healthy eating and physical activity choices. Cigna and HKC* have teamed up on a number of projects, including Showcase Schools, the Mix Six for Healthy Balance Toolkit, and Dance for Health.
