Cigna Medical Network Plans
Cost-effective care to help your employees stay healthy.
Network plans are available to organizations in certain service areas. For most Network plans, employees' care is coordinated by a primary care physician, which can help lower costs and improve health outcomes.
About the Network
Cigna's network is designed around a focused set of quality, cost-effective doctors and hospitals.
Typical Plan Structure
Your plan will vary based on what you discuss with your local Cigna representative, but here is a basic summary of how Network plans typically work:
Network and Network Point of Service
- Primary care physician (PCP) selection is required
- Referrals are required to see a specialist
- Out-of-network care is excluded from coverage with a Network plan, unless it's an emergency. Out-of-network coverage is included for Network Point of Service plans at a higher out-of-pocket cost.
- Pre-certification may be required for hospitalizations and some types of outpatient care
Network Open Access
- Primary care physician (PCP) selection is encouraged, but not required
- Referrals are not required to see a specialist
- Out-of-network care is excluded from coverage unless it’s a emergency. Out-of-network coverage is included for Network Open Access Point of Service pans at a higher out-of-pocket cost.
- Pre-certification may be required for hospitalizations and some types of outpatient care
