Far too many Americans are dying from drug overdoses as the yearly rate just crossed 100,000—a horrific milestone—and continues to increase. Public health leaders, including National Institute on Drug Abuse Director Nora Volkow, are calling for radical and realistic changes to intervene as early as possible with harm reduction measures to keep them alive while we help them seek treatment and provide recovery support. This presentation will present how SMART Recovery® is responding through partnerships with harm reduction centers and more meetings where they are needed most. It will also offer hope in research showing that most people with addictive problems do recover, although we can shorten how long it takes and save numerous lives by implementing these changes.
