THE TV DOCTORS OF AMERICA WANT YOU TO GET AN ANNUAL CHECK‑UP
They’ve saved lives on TV, but now they’re helping save lives for real by encouraging Americans to get an annual check‑up.
According to the CDC, if everyone in America gets the preventive care they need, regardless of their age, we will save more than 100,000 lives.* With many health plans covering in-network annual check-ups at 100%,** and our trusty TV Doctors by our side, we're working hard for early detection.
The TV Doctors of America features prominent actors who have played doctors on TV, and each has a personal passion to make a real difference in the health of the country. Each has their own reason for their commitment to help people prevent chronic diseases and live a healthier life. But why don't you hear it from them?
Now that I have kids, their health becomes paramount, [to make sure] they’re going to the doctors and getting shots. That only makes sense for adults, as well — to be preemptively aware so that you can stay healthy longer.
“Annual check-ups are important for everyone, especially your family members. Preventive care is important for staying well and helps avoid problems before they occur. Know the 4 health numbers: blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar and BMI, which are important indicators of overall health.”
So my family history is cholesterol and high blood pressure. I need to be ahead of that [so] I talk to my doctor and have a strategy and a plan. And [getting] an annual check-up helps to do that.
“Whether your high cholesterol is inherited or due to your diet, if it’s not controlled, it can result in serious health issues. Cholesterol blood tests include LDL (bad cholesterol), HDL (good cholesterol) and triglycerides. Avoid saturated and trans fats such as animal fats and lard. Eat foods that contain healthy fats such as walnuts, almonds, fatty fish and avocados. Also, exercise to increase your good HDL cholesterol. Make sure to get your cholesterol checked as part of your annual check‑up.”
I think it’s incredibly important to have a good relationship with your doctor. I love my GP, she’s amazing. You definitely want to have a feeling of trust and feel like you’re being taken care of.
“Your health is a priority and your relationship with your doctor is an important one, so make the most of your yearly visit. Come with questions about any health issues you’ve had or are currently experiencing. Don’t be afraid to ask. And don’t feel rushed because doctors are busy. We’re here for patients. Cigna’s Wellness Checklist can help you prepare for your annual check‑up.”
I have very young children. I’m 43 now, so when my two-year-old is 20, I’ll be 60-something, so it’s very important for me to be healthy and know where I’m at. I want to be around for my kids.
“A healthier life can mean a longer life. An annual check-up can find health problems before they occur. Preventive care may help you avoid getting sick. During a check-up, your doctor will tell you your 4 health numbers: blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar and body mass index (BMI). Getting these numbers to healthy levels is key to a long, healthy life.”
